And some more

Sorry they are such terrible snaps, I don't have Guy's steady hand.  Anyway, some very determined faces.

Some photos of the Loughor games

A bit later than they should be, but here's a few snaps of the action from the games at Loughor.  First game, then the other in the next post.

Sunday 27th March

Well done to everyone on Tues in the contact session as we look to improve our physical attitude and attributes. Pontadawe have cancelled our fixture leaving us with one venue and against Penclawdd again! As mentioned on Tues therefore as they have consistently been the strongest opposition we have introduced the concept of competition for a team place and will take the most consistently physical in attitude this week to play Penclawdd (at South Gower) and have a further tackle physical training session and 6 a side match for the rest of our squad. This training is equally important as matchplay and will allow new faces to take a physical and mental lead. Please text if unavailable for either session 07814717334.
(Luke injured, Jon away).

Dates & This Week

Thanks to everyone who has responded re dates (16/26) so we can confirm a team in the Luctonians Tournament on April 17th. This can be done as a day trip or stay over in Hereford the night before as a mini-tour as last 2 years. Please let us know if interested in staying over option to see if there are viable numbers.

Penclawdd have woken up to the reality that their tournament set for the 24th April is EASTER SUNDAY and have changed the date to Sun 8th May...So please can I have availability for Sun 8 - as we have a tour game on Sat 7, I suggest we have our end of season presentation / night out after (venue & format to be anounced), the night of Sat 7 (?combined with Gwernfed & other ages playing) and end season after the Gower Cup 8th May. This weekend would then be in place of a further end of season tour.

Would folk like us to look for a match Easter Sunday or cancel?

For the last couple of years MRFC have gone to Clifton in Bristol, again once as a weekend (with zoo, Cribbs Causeway, disco etc) and last year as day trip. The tournament is Oct 2nd and again we have been asked to confirm in the next 10 days, so if we can get 12 definites to play we can iron out details later.

Sun 20th, Loughor have promised enough for 2 games, meet Loughor 10.30

Missing in action

Jake Chase's training top, a small version of the one's the coaches wear with the 'Mumbles' mostly worn off, is missing after the games at Penclawdd. Has anyone picked it up by mistake?

Mumbles Pirates vs Bryncoch

Final score 0-40.  Report to follow.

Penclawdd vs Mumbles Pirates

Another Sunday and another tale of a game of two halves. On a bright sunny morning on the North Gower coast the Pirates started slowly and let their hosts race away to an early lead.  On too many occasions good recycling was wasted when possession was squandered and poor tackling led to break away tries for Penclawdd.  At the half it was 35-7 to the home team with only a long distance try, a classic outside break, from Jon Davies to show for all the effort; converted, as ever by Liam.

The second half saw the Pirates raise their heads and their game.  In a bruising encounter the 10 man Pirates had to play through a number of bumps and lumps with no substitutes to call on.  Taking on Penclawdd and some of the peculiar local versions of the laws, well it was North Gower, the Pirates came roaring back into the game.  A feature of this was agressive team defence, good recycling throughout the half, Tal and Jon ripping the ball off a number of their players, yes ripping (see the comment above about local laws) and some good finishing.  Penclawdd scored two further tries sandwiched by fine team tries, finished by Jon and Harley, with more conversions by Liam.

So the score in the second half was 14-14; all in a very good half of rugby against a good team.  The score for the match was 49 - 21, not so good.  Player of the Match was Tomos for good work throughout, including a good bull dog to help set up Jon's second try.

Team:

Front row: Cian, Freddie, Connor
Second row: Tal, Tomos
Scrum Half: Liam
Fly Half: Harley
Centre: Jake C
Wings: Owen, Jon
