No Training Sunday 23, Training ON TUESDAY 25 17.30 by Lights
Well done to all 18 players who all contributed to a good win. Strong running and some good passing in places. Again the contact area can be challenging. I would like ALL players to think about their job when they take the ball into contact.
CAN EVERY PLAYER LEARN THIS BY TUESDAY
1. CAN I GIVE A SIMPLE PASS TO A SUPPORT RUNNER- if yes, DRAW THE MAN AND PASS
2. if no then I have to go into contact, LOW BODY POSITION, drive with legs stay on your feet, BALL IN TWO HANDS until you are tackled by a legal tackle
3. As you are tackled, ask CAN I GIVE A SIMPLE POP PASS OFF THE GROUND TO A SUPPORT RUNNER, if yes and support runner is ready, hands up and calling GIVE THE PASS.
4. If not as you land after the tackle you must present the ball, actively and aggressively getting into PENCIL with an immediate body action. After placing the ball your job is done.
THE NEXT MAN THERE
1.if there is no opposition, pick up the ball and go.However this is unusual as players from both sides usually arrive together.
2. You must become an 'angry Hungary bulldog" with hips overvthe ball guarding it as if it is your only chance of food that day. We ate technically OK at this but need the hunger to be more physical, low body driving any opposition off the ball in what is now a RUCK.
3. next player is acting scrum-half and must pass.

Player of the Week
Joe showed some very good running lines and the "STAT PAD" would show a lot of meters gained during the game... Well done Joe.
Stiff competition for the award as Tom T did some good rumble up front and was keen to get his hands on the ball. Jake C, Owen and Liam were in mentioned in our discussion.
Good win, helped by a ref who marshalled the off-side line and allowed us to play rugby.

Mumbles Pirates vs Gowerton
A select band met on Sunday to do battle against a physical Gowerton team. The Pirates battled hard but went down 9 tries to 3 (scored by Will and Conor). Man of the Match this week was Josh who put in a hard stint at the coal face.
Things to work on for this week are taking the ball going forward, clearing out in the rucks and advancing to put pressure on our opponents and make the tackles on our terms. Again the spirit was good to push forward and score the last try of the match with some good elements of play throughout. See you tonight.

Mumbles Pirates vs Gowerton, 9th October 10am meet at Bishopston
A chance for some rugby at home this week. So it's at Bishopston, versus Gowerton, meet at 10am and we'll be on the pitch to the front/side of the school (same place we played Bridgend). I will ping round a teamer invite so see who can play as I gather there is some round ball event on as well.

Clifton tournament
I will write a report, but for now just a short note. A fantastic day in the energy sapping sun. Four games played, two good victories, two close losses and for a moment a glimpse at possible silverware. I will wax lyrical and possibly use terms like "gladiators entering the field" and even "entering the lost lands to battle the Saxons" when I have five minutes.
As for the Teamer I think it has taken a life of it's own and has polled for the man of the tournament, but without all the players. So we can do it the old fashioned way and vote for player of the week on Tuesday.
