Pirates vs Morriston

After two weeks playing away from home, this Sunday morning the Pirates returned to Bishopston for a match against Morriston. As usual a good turn-out from the Pirates meant that we could field different teams for each half, or as it turned out, all four halves of rugby.

Our opponents Morriston were more focused than the Pirates and started well; going into the first break we were already two tries down. Generally the tackling was committed, but the tries were conceded when we lost our defensive alignment after a fews phases of play. In the next 'half' Jake C scored from short range through a good half dozen of the Morriston team. However, good organisation from Morriston lead to further tries.

In the third 'half' good straight running from Will, up the blind side, led to a fine long distance try. In the final section of the game strong running from John, after good interplay with Rhydian and excellent recycling, was rewarded with a fine try. After that, the tackling fell away at the end of the game, as shoulders drooped in the Pirate ranks, and Morriston were able to run in a few more tries. After this marathon game the final score was 19-45.

Good points were again the recycling of the ball and positive driving runs. What let us down, and ultimately was the difference between the teams, was a lack of focus and organisation. Whilst it was nice to see everyone having fun and smiling, at times the high spirits interrupted preparations for the game, particularly when the teams were waiting to play their next half of play.

However, there were lots of good performances and the Player of the Week was shared again this week; the co-winners being Tal and Liam.

A final word on the photos.  Guy has excelled himself this week again with too many fabulous photos to post on the blog.  He's got them organised now, so speak to him if you want copies of the shots that didn't make it into the blog, and for the previous weeks.
